Click here for Information on School lunches During the Closure
Monday, March 16, 2020
Dear JCS Families,
The situation with the COVID-19 virus is rapidly evolving. On Sunday, California State Senator Mike McGuire reported to all Humboldt County Administrators that schools should consider closing for long periods of time. To this end, we are extending Jacoby Creek School’s closure to March 27. This closure includes all sporting events and all school related meetings.
During this first week, we will not be assigning independent study. We want to encourage students to read, write, draw, exercise, cook, play music, and have fun with their families while practicing social distancing. We are waiting for clarification from Governor Newsom regarding independent study, and our whole staff will be working to meet the learning needs of our community as soon as we receive this guidance. Information will be shared with our school community as soon as possible.
Parent/teacher conferences are cancelled. You should expect to either receive your child’s report card or a letter from your child’s teacher in the mail next week. Teachers are available to schedule phone conferences if you would like to discuss your child’s progress. Please email them if you would like to set up a phone meeting time.
We also want to take this opportunity to strongly encourage all families to heed the warnings of our state and local officials. The school has closed in order to limit social interaction. Please distance yourself from others and cancel unnecessary interaction. Be mindful of our elderly community members and those who have compromised immune systems. Of course, don’t forget to wash your hands!
Please feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher or Mrs. Nannizzi with questions or concerns. We are practicing social distancing, but we are happy to talk on the phone or even schedule a video chat. Also, the “Recent News” link toward the bottom of the jcsk8.org website is a great resource for families.
Sincerely,
Melanie Nannizzi
